What will Zac Taylor do if Bengals lose Dan Pitcher?

The Cincinnati Bengals could lose offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher soon.

If that happens, it would mark another loss to Zac Taylor’s coaching staff to other teams via promotion.

In Pitcher’s case, it might be a “promotion” after an interview with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because Taylor has granted him permission to speak with other teams offering coordinator roles in which he calls the plays.

So if Pitcher leaves, one has to wonder if Brian Callahan might walk back through that door.

Callahan was the coordinator before Pitcher and went on to serve as head coach of the Tennessee Titans. He’s on the market right now and hasn’t seen his name pop up often in job chatter just yet.

Given the Bengals’ reliance on continuity, Callahan simply coming back to work with Taylor and Joe Burrow again would be a pretty safe bet. It would be tough to see them actually going outside the team for fresh ideas at this stage, especially when a whopping 10 NFL teams need to hire new head coaches and entire staff sheets in the process, taking up all the big-time candidates.

Callahan coming back if Pitcher leaves might be a little boring, but it would certainly be Bengals boring, at least.
