At one point Jordan Poole looked like a key ingredient of the Golden State Warriors’ dynasty. The crafty guard helped Golden State win a title in arguably his career-best season in 2021-22, but the relationship soured after an incident with Draymond Green during the following training camp.
In an October 2022 practice, Green and Poole got into argument that resulted in Green sending Poole to the floor with a vicious punch to the face. It began a season-long headache for Golden State.
The Warriors fined Green, who decided to step away from the team to allow for healing, and shortly thereafter signed Poole to a four-year, $140 million contract extension. Poole would go on to have a rocky year as his shooting percentages dipped while his turnovers increased. Golden State got eliminated in the second round of the playoffs, and to add insult to injury, Green admitted their struggles were somewhat of a byproduct from the Poole incident.
Poole got traded to the Washington Wizards in June 2023 and has been putting up big stats on bad teams ever since. Now with the New Orleans Pelicans, Poole had to relive one of his worst moments thanks to an inquisitive kid.
In a clip that’s gone viral on social media, a kid asked Poole what it was like to get punched by Green. Poole had an honest and succinct answer: “It was tough, bro.”

Credit to Poole for answering the difficult question amid an equally difficult season. Poole’s scoring numbers are down and he has his worst field goal percentage since his rookie year, while the Pelicans are dead last in the Western Conference.
