For months, there has been lots of speculation about what LeBron James will do, basketball-wise, after the end of this NBA season. He will become a free agent, and while he is still playing at a superstar level at age 41, it is anyone’s guess what he will do or whether he will even remain in the league next season.
That speculation has only grown in the wake of a recent article by Baxter Holmes of ESPN that, among other things, alleged that there has been something of a rift between James and Los Angeles Lakers governor Jeanie Buss. That article has likely made some feel that James is as good as gone, and plenty of Lakers fans have wanted him gone for at least the last year or so.
Despite the insane amount of mileage James has on his 41-year-old body, he will surely have multiple suitors should he decide to leave the Purple and Gold this summer. One of those suitors, according to insider Jake Fischer, will be the Golden State Warriors.
“Sources say that the Warriors naturally do plan to feature prominently in the trade mix for Milwaukee’s [Giannis] Antetokounmpo if he truly becomes available via trade this offseason while also exploring the prospect of teaming James with Stephen Curry at last once LeBron becomes an unrestricted free agent on June 30,” Fischer wrote.
In an attempt to reopen their championship window, Golden State traded for veteran star forward Jimmy Butler last February. But the team has struggled throughout this season, and this week, Butler tore his ACL, prematurely ending his season.
If the Warriors do go after James this summer, it won’t be the first time. They have made multiple attempts over the last couple of years to trade for him, as Fischer pointed out in August. But each time, the Lakers weren’t exactly interested.
