MBB Live Thread: Mizzou looks to revive offense against Oklahoma

First Half

  • Shawn Phillips Jr. opens the game with a block, a second-chance layup and an and-one dunk with two hands. After Jayden Stone connects on a 3-pointer from the left wing, Mizzou leads 7-3 with 16:40 remaining in the first half.
  • Nicholas Randall checks into the game for Phillips Jr. with 16:06 left.
  • Mizzou leads 9-6 at the under-16 timeout. Phillips Jr. has been dominant. T.O. Barrett looks comfortable on both ends of the floor.
  • Anthony Robinson II checks into the game for Barrett with 14:38 remaining. Trent Pierce also subs into the game.
  • Mizzou leads 17-14 at the under-12 timeout. The Tigers are dominating the Sooners on the glass thus far with a 10-1 rebound advantage. Stone has glided through the lane for a couple of sweet buckets at the rim. Robinson II had a nice steal on defense and drew an offensive foul on an illegal screen, but he’s missed his first two shots (a contested fastbreak layup after the steal and an open 3-pointer that rattled out) and picked up an offensive foul of his own.
  • Oklahoma leads 25-23 at the under-8 timeout. Before Barrett made a pair of layups off of dribble-drives, Mizzou had missed eight of nine shots. After missing their first three shots from the field, the Sooners have made eight of their last nine attempts.
  • OU leads 33-32 at the under-4 timeout. Barrett has been fantastic so far, as he’s got nine points on 4-of-5 shooting, A steal and a layup got the Tigers out of a prolonged rut. Barrett, Stone and Mitchell have scored 28 of Mizzou’s 32 points so far.
  • HALFTIME: Oklahoma leads 37-36. Mizzou is up 22-2 in points in the paint, but Oklahoma is up 35-14 from everywhere else on the floor. The Tigers are 1-of-10 from beyond the arc, while the Sooners are 6-of-12.

Second Half

  • Oklahoma leads 44-43 at the under-16 timeout. Mizzou has missed its last five attempts from the field. Sebastian Mack is in the game for the first time tonight and just got fouled on a layup attempt.
  • Trent Burns checks into the game for the first time today out of the under-16 timeout
  • With Burns’ substitution, 12 players have seen the floor for Mizzou today, which is abnormal
  • Dennis Gates calls a timeout after Xzavier Brown converts a wild layup to put Oklahoma ahead 52-47 with 12:58 remaining. Mizzou is 3-of-12 from the field so far in the second half.
  • Phillips Jr. was called for a flagrant foul after seemingly hitting Kirill Elatontsev in the face on a boxout. Elatontsev splits the pair of free throws, and Oklahoma leads 53-52 with just under 11 minutes left.
  • Oklahoma leads 61-58 at the under-8 timeout. Mizzou is 4-of-18 from beyond the arc. Nijel Pack has 10 points in the second half so far.
  • Robinson II picks up his fourth foul with 6:51 left. That’s the 23rd game of his career in which he’s tallied at least four fouls in a game.
  • Barrett has been incredible at attacking the basket from the perimeter and finishing at the rim. A spin into an and-one layup (plus the free throw) ties the game at 70 with 5:14 left.
  • Another spin and silky-smooth layup from Barrett puts Mizzou up 78-77 with 1:24 left. He’s up to 18 points on the afternoon.
  • Down one with 21.2 seconds left at the start of the possession, Mitchell’s contested layup rims out, and Tae Davis is fouled. He will shoot two free throws with 5.6 left.
    • Davis makes both free throws. Oklahoma leads 81-78.
  • Holy moly! Trent Pierce drills a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer. We’re going to overtime.
