BEDFORD, Pa. – Thirteen wrestlers from the area advanced to the 37th annual Thomas Automotive Tournament semifinals Friday at Bedford High School.
Clearfield leads the team standings with 109 points, followed by Huntingdon (108.5), Burrell (102), Chestnut Ridge (101.5) and Greenville (96.5). There are 31 squads competing.
Chestnut Ridge advanced six to the semifinals, and Berlin Brothersvalley moved three on with unbeaten records.
At 107 pounds, Chestnut Ridge’s Kooper Deputy pinned Central’s Nathan Morris in 39 seconds during a quarterfinal bout. Deputy will face Central’s Ty Matthews Saturday. Conemaugh Township’s Carter Christ earned a 19-9 major decision over Northern Garrett’s Blake Andres, and will meet Tri-Valley’s Owen Wolfgang in the 107 semifinals.
Chestnut Ridge’s Garrett Weyandt recorded a fall in 1:07 over North Schuylkill’s Evan Miernicki in a 114 quarterfinal. Weyandt will meet Everett’s Tucker Smith Saturday. Also at 114, Chestnut Ridge’s Carter Ickes produced a 15-3 major decision over North Star’s Liam Gathers. Ickes will face Northeast Bradford’s Mason Alexander Saturday.
At 127, three-time event champion Dominic Deputy from Chestnut Ridge pinned Bethlehem-Center’s Shane Cronin in 2:59. Dominic Deputy, a 2025 PIAA Class 2A champion and North Carolina State signee, will oppose Berlin Brothersvalley’s Lukas Smith, a 7-2 winner over Falconer’s Dylan Newman, Saturday.
Central Cambria’s Hadyn Strittmatter won a 13-4 major decision over West Greene’s Noah Collins in a 133 quarterfinal. Strittmatter meets Huntingdon’s Chris Gibson Saturday.
At 139, Chestnut Ridge’s Trenden Willey pinned Milton’s Ty Locke in 2:12. Willey will face Northern Garrett’s Devon Opel next.
Meyersdale’s Brennan Schardt edged Pine Grove’s Aaron Osatchuk 8-7 in a 145 quarterfinal match. Schardt will meet Greenville’s Rudy Gentile Saturday.
At 152, Berlin Brothersvalley’s Dawson Shaffer earned a 14-4 major decision over Line Mountain’s Dalton Schadel. Shaffer faces Frazier’s Jonah Erdely next.
Berlin Brothersvalley’s Carter Durst pinned Tri-Valley’s Hunter Updegrave in 3:48 during a 172 quarterfinal. Up next for Durst is Huntingdon’s Grady Clark.
At 189, Chestnut Ridge’s Jayden Imler recorded a fall in 49 seconds against Falconer’s Patrick Braley. Imler meets Greenville’s Hunter Cox Saturday. Central Cambria’s Jeremy Hajzus won an 18-4 major decision over Milton’s Michael Runkle in a quarterfinal. Hajzus faces Bethlehem-Center’s Malachi Peak in a semifinal match.
Bedford’s Cuyler Hale (160) and Carter Kozielec (139), Central Cambria’s Burke Niebauer (139), Chestnut Ridge’s Austin Bernash (133), Meyersdale’s Gianni Browne (285) and Cooper Porter (172), North Star’s Cameron Barnick (121) and Somerset’s Sammy Sheeler (152) each lost in the quarterfinals.
