Browns head coach search: CLE interviews a former HC and ‘surprise’ candidate

Cleveland met with a new head coaching candidate this week, as former Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn interviewed for the head coaching vacancy in Northeast Ohio yesterday.

Lynn, who’s been serving as the Commanders’ run-game coordinator and running backs coach since the 2024 season, is known for his steady-handedness and leadership ability. Despite his time as Los Angeles’ HC not going entirely the way he had planned, he’s still seen as an incredibly good coach around the league.

If he gets the job, it would be his second stint in Cleveland as he was the team’s running backs coach in 2007.

Lynn led the Chargers to a 12-4 record and to the playoffs in 2018, their first time being there since the 2013 season. He was also instrumental in the Chargers’ upset win over the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round.

He’s officially the 10th head coaching candidate that Cleveland has interviewed in 2026.
