Across the past two games, the Alabama Crimson Tide have been without starting forward Amari Allen.
One of the SEC’s top freshmen, Allen has not played against both Tennessee and Missouri due to an injury suffered in the Oklahoma game, and as a result, the Crimson Tide have not had one of their most versatile players available.
However, according to head coach Nate Oats, Allen could potentially be available for Alabama on Sunday afternoon in Gainesville against the defending national champion Florida Gators, providing an update on the status of the star freshman Friday.
“Amari’s yet to practice, but he’s been going through some basketball workouts and looking a lot better,” Oats said. “He’s chomping at the bit wanting to play. He’s a competitor. If he’s close to being able to play, I think he’s gonna play, but that’ll probably end up being a game-time decision on him like it’s been here recently.”
When healthy, Allen has started 10-of-17 games played for the Crimson Tide this season, averaging 11.7 points per game on 45.7% shooting from the field, as well as 36.9% from three. The freshman does a bit of everything for the Crimson Tide as well, also averaging 7.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game this season.
Alabama will face Florida on Sunday afternoon looking to snap a four-game losing streak against the Gators head-to-head, one that dates back to the 2023-24 season. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. ET on ABC.
