Washington Wizards rookie guard Tre Johnson was sidelined on Friday for a home matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers because of a sprained left ankle.
Johnson suffered the injury in the second quarter on Thursday during a win over the Milwaukee Bucks when he landed on the foot of Ryan Rollins after a shot attempt. He was ruled out of returning, finishing with eight points and two rebounds in 11 minutes, 28 seconds.
Wizards coach Brian Keefe didn’t have an update on the severity of the injury prior to hosting the Lakers, according to Bijan Todd of Monumental Sports Network. The team will provide an update on his status before their next game on Sunday against the Sacramento Kings.
Brian Keefe had no update on the severity of Tre Johnson’s ankle sprain when I asked him pregame.

Johnson was one of 10 rookies named to the Rising Stars Game, averaging 12.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 39.3% from 3-point range. He ranks sixth in rookie scoring and has the most 3-pointers through the first 39 games of a career in franchise history (84).
The sixth overall pick has played a key role for Keefe and the Wizards, starting each of the last 17 games. He has scored in double figures 14 times over that span, averaging 14.8 points, three assists and 2.2 rebounds on 40.8% shooting from beyond the arc.
Johnson is missing his eighth game of the season after dealing with a hip injury in November. He and the team will be hopeful his latest setback won’t force him to miss extended time.
