The Arizona Cardinals lost out on who might have been their top candidate to be their head coach to the Las Vegas Raiders. While both teams met with Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak on Saturday, and everyone went into deliberation as the Seahawks travel to California on Sunday to begin preparations for the Super Bowl, Kubiak appears to have made his decision.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Kubiak intends on trying to strike a deal with the Raiders to be their next head coach. Because the Seahawks are still active, he can’t work out a deal until after the Super Bowl.
This has been the decision expected for a while. The Raiders were considered the prohibitive favorites to land Kubiak. They have some offensive talent in running back Ashton Jeanty and tight end Brock Bowers. They have an elite pass rusher in Maxx Crosby. They have tons of cap space to spend money this offseason and they have the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL draft, meaning they can get Fernando Mendoza, the top quarterback prospect in the draft.
As for the Cardinals, they must now go back and make a decision on one of the three candidates they left waiting — LA Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, former Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris or Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
The one thing good to come of all this is that there should be a decision coming from the Cardinals soon, so this nonsense can end.
