Arizona Cardinals finalizing deal with Mike LaFleur to be head coach

The Arizona Cardinals have decided on a new head coach. After Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak decided he wants to be the next head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, the Cardinals have gone back to the man who was the favorite all along.

According to multiple reports, first by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and immediately after by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the Cardinals are working to finalize a deal with Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur to be their next head coach.

It is expected to be a five-year contract.

Per Rapoport, LaFleur “stood out early in the process,” but the Cardinals wanted to do their due diligence.

LaFleur, brother of Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, was the offensive coordinator for the Rams for the last three years after two as OC for the New York Jets. He was not the playcaller for the Rams but called plays for the Jets.

With this decision done, now we must wait and see who he will bring on as part of his staff. Who will be his defensive coordinator? Will it be Raheem Morris, who was the DC for the Rams in 2023 in LaFleur’s first year there? Could he retain Nick Rallis? Maybe fellow candidate Anthony Weaver will be in the mix?

The Cardinals will likely make the announcement on Monday with media availability in the afternoon.

LaFleur now inherits a team that went 3-14 last season and lost their final nine games, including five by at least three scores. The offense didn’t score more than 20 points in their final seven games.

But now, at least, we know who the guy will be.
