SARANAC — After AuSable Valley jumped to an 11-4 first-quarter lead, Saranac responded to tie things at halftime.
That’s the kind of game it turned out to be in a 52-48 win for the Spartans.
Neither team led by more than five points throughout the contest.
Saranac was led by Maddie Gagnier’s 19 points. Lily Brown added nine points and steals with Grace Terry chipping in nine points. Alyse Liberty was effective on both ends of the court with eight points and seven steals.
The Patriots were led by Renee Bruno and Julia Bailey as the duo scored 18 and 12 points, respectively.
“I don’t feel we are playing our best basketball right now,” Saranac head coach Tim Newell said. “We definitely have to improve on the defensive side of the ball. We have a few weeks until sectional play, and I know the girls will work hard to be ready.”

PERU — The Nighthawks had a complete game against the Red Storm in a 67-22 victory.
Peru had a combined 16 assists as they moved the ball methodically down the court in transition.
Reese Duprey finished with a double-double of 21 points and 17 rebounds, 14 that came on offense.
Violet Berry finished with 16 points to go with a strong defensive effort. She, Bella Berry, Piper Deslauriers and Duprey had five steals each.
Emma Akey led Saranac Lake with 10 points.
“Before the game, we asked the girls to come out with energy and play hard,” Peru head coach Ryon O’Connell said. “The coaching staff was very happy to see the girls play great team defense, which allowed us to get out and run our fastbreak. We passed the ball very well and looked for each other in transition.”

PLATTSBURGH — Amara Gorham had a double-double as Plattsburgh defeated NAC, 75-30.
Gorham finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way as Olivia LaMountain finished with 13 points. Essynce Gorham and Ava Weiss added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Bobcats were led by Ava Moore’s 12 points.
“The girls came out with a lot of energy tonight and played hard for four quarters of basketball. We had good offensive contributions from multiple players and shared the ball well. I was proud of our defensive efforts,” PHS head coach Kelly Weiss said. “NAC is a tough team and played very hard until the final buzzer.”

SCHROON LAKE — Saranac Lake, leading by three points at the half, broke away over the final two quarters for a 70-54 win over Schroon Lake/Newcomb on Friday in non-league boys’ basketball.
Mik Denkenberger and Cedar Crist led the Red Storm with 18 points each, while Zack McCarthy added 13 and Connor Gillis 10.
Nate Melville scored 18 points, Logan Phillips 14 and Trenton Dick 13, including three 3-pointers, for the Wild Huskies.
“Saranac Lake was able to pull away in the third quarter,” SL/N coach David Pelkey said.

Gavin Sypek and Greyson Peters finished with 13 points each, while Trenten Taylor added 12 and both Deacon Whitmarsh and Mo Diatta 10.
Michael Mannix scored 27 points and Matt Dubay 12 for Seton Catholic.
“It was a back-and-forth game through three quarters,” Seton coach Larry Converse said. “At the end of three, the score was Peru 45, Seton Catholic 43.
“Their overall size and numbers took over in the fourth quarter. I was very proud of the effort our boys displayed.”
