Who is Matt Nagy? 3 things to know about NY Giants offensive coordinator

The New York Giants have found their first offensive play caller under head coach John Harbaugh.

The Giants have named Matt Nagy as their offensive coordinator, according to reports on Tuesday morning.

Nagy will take over the play calling duties for the G-Men, as he will now be in charge of orchestrating the offense that features a young nucleus in quarterback Jaxson Dart, wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Cam Skattebo

Here are three things to know about the new Giants offensive coordinator:

Former head coach in the NFL

Matt Nagy was previously a head coach, where he led the Bears from 2018-2021.

It started well for Nagy, who led Chicago to a 12-4 mark in his first season and finished with a 34-31 record during his four seasons as head coach in the Windy City.

Nagy led the Bears to the playoffs twice but came up short both times, including losing to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round during the 2018 season.

Has worked extensively with Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid

Nagy started his coaching career in the NFL under Chiefs head coach Andy Reid dating back to their days with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2008-2012.

Nagy joined Reid when the latter became Kansas City’s head coach in 2013.

There he was a quarterbacks coach from 2013-16 before becoming their offensive coordinator for one season in 2017 prior to leaving for the Bears head coaching job.

After being dismissed in Chicago, Nagy returned to the Chiefs, where he was the quarterbacks coach in 2022 and most recently the organization’s offensive coordinator for the last three seasons from 2023-25.

A Garden State native

It’s a homecoming for Nagy now that he’s the Giants offensive coordinator.

The 47-year-old hails from the Raritan Valley region as he was born in Dunellen and raised in Piscataway briefly before his family moved to Manheim, Pennsylvania when he was a child.
