Hornets waive ex-Bucks guard Pat Connaughton

A member of the Milwaukee Bucks’ 2021 NBA championship team is looking for a new team.

The Charlotte Hornets waived veteran guard Pat Connaughton on Feb. 4.

Connaughton was in his first year in Charlotte after seven seasons with the Bucks. In 22 games with the Hornets, he was averaging 2.9 points in 7.0 minutes per game.

Connaughton, 33, appeared in 73 playoff games with the Bucks, including a team-high 23 in the 2020-21 championship run and shot 44.1% from behind the three-point line in the Bucks’ six-game NBA Finals series victory over the Phoenix Suns.

He played in 440 games (with 66 starts) in Milwaukee after signing as a free agent from Portland in 2018, and averaged 6.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

Connaughton’s Milwaukee-based commercial development firm, Three Leaf Partners LLC, developed several properties in the Milwaukee area during his time with the team and still has multiple projects ongoing in southeastern Wisconsin.

The Pat Connaughton Foundation also was active in the Milwaukee area, building or refurbishing basketball courts and putting on youth basketball clinics.
