Ex-New York Giants Super Bowl hero joins Atlanta Falcons coaching staff

Former New York Giants linebacker Chase Blackburn has landed a job on the Atlanta Falcons’ coaching staff.

Blackburn played eight seasons for the Giants from 2005 to 2012. The Ohio native secured a crucial interception on a heave from New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to tight end Rob Gronkowski with 14:20 to play in Super Bowl XLVI that helped the Giants win 21-17.

Blackburn began his NFL coaching career in 2016 as part of the Carolina Panthers’ staff. He served as special teams coordinator from 2018 to 2022. He also served as assistant special teams coordinator for the Tennessee Titans in 2022, before his most recent role as special teams coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams from 2023 to 2025.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that the Falcons are set to hire Blackburn as their assistant special teams coach.

The Falcons went 8-9 in 2025. Atlanta scored 32-39 field goal attempts last season and converted 31 of 33 extra point attempts. Atlanta did not score any kick or punt return touchdowns last year.

Blackburn will serve under Atlanta’s special teams coordinator Craig Aukerman in 2026.
