CAN 2027 postponed? Patrice Motsepe puts an end to the suspense!

The rumor of a CAN 2027 postponement ultimately couldn’t withstand the facts. While The Guardian had recently suggested that the tournament could be pushed to 2028 due to concerns over the preparedness of the Kenya-Uganda-Tanzania trio, CAF was quick to set the record straight.

Meeting in Dar es Salaam, the Executive Committee of the continental body saw its president Patrice Motsepe officially confirm that the 2027 edition would go ahead as planned, putting an end to several days of speculation.

According to information shared during this meeting, CAF also reaffirmed its reform project, with an Africa Cup of Nations to be held every four years starting in 2028, as well as the creation of an African Nations League structured by geographical zones. Source: official CAF statement.
