Everybody knows the Los Angeles Rams need help at cornerback in 2026.
The team’s secondary suffered down the stretch, and it caught up to them in the NFC title game against the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. With defensive backs potentially hitting free agency (Roger McCreary, Kamren Curl and Cobie Durant) and Darious Williams’ non-guaranteed contract, the Rams could overhaul the position in one offseason.
One easy way the Rams could do this is through the 2026 NFL draft. L.A. has two first round picks in a class with several quality prospects.
ESPN’s Field Yates unveiled his post-Super Bowl mock draft, where he picked two frequently-mocked players to the Rams, just rarely together, with the Nos. 13 and 29 picks: Tennessee cornerbacks Jermod McCoy and Colton Hood, respectively. According to ESPN, this would be the first time any team has taken two players from the same school at the same position in the first round of the common draft era (since 1967).
Los Angeles learned the hard way last season that a strong front seven can’t neutralize a capable passing game — Jaxon Smith-Njigba combined for 354 receiving yards in three matchups against the Rams.
McCoy is a wild card. He is clearly talented enough to go in the top 10, but he missed the entire 2025 season after tearing an ACL last January. He’s a long, confident and talented man-to-man cover corner who stood out in 2024 (four interceptions and seven passes defensed). If his medicals are fully on track, he’ll go early.
Hood didn’t actually take any snaps on the field with McCoy, as he transferred to Tennessee prior to the 2025 season that McCoy sat out due to injury. But Hood more than made up for McCoy’s void with 10 pass breakups this past season.

This would be quite the change for the Rams’ secondary. Two young cornerbacks would revolutionize the unit, even if the Rams brought back Durant, McCreary or Curl, or even signed others in free agency.
The move would be bold, especially with the value of these first-round picks, but the risk might be worth it to turn the Rams’ defense into a powerhouse from the defensive line all the way to the deep secondary.
