There’s something about a blacked-out iron that makes even a range session feel a little more serious, and Srixon clearly understands that. The company just released limited-edition Black Chrome versions of its ZXi7 and ZXi5 irons, taking two of the most refined models in its current lineup and giving them a darker, more aggressive look without altering the performance DNA that made them popular in the first place.
If you’re the type who appreciates compact shaping, soft feel and a clean address profile, the ZXi7 Black Chrome is aimed squarely at you. The ZXi7 is the control iron in the family, designed for accomplished players who prioritize precision and shot-shaping. It’s a single-piece forging made from S15C steel, the softest material Srixon has used, using the company’s i-FORGED process which reinforces key areas of the head so it keeps structural integrity while preserving feel.
That i-FORGED construction stretches material into the hosel and topline to add strength, while the enlarged PureFrame ridge behind the sweet spot enhances stability and soaks up vibration at impact. Pair that with Srixon’s Tour V.T. Sole, which blends sole width, bounce and relief to help the club glide through the turf, and you have an iron built for players who want the ability to flight it down, carve it left, peal it right and control distance precisely.
The ZXi5 Black Chrome, on the other hand, is the better-player’s distance option. It offers a slightly wider sole, moderate blade length and a touch more offset, giving stronger recreational players a blend of speed and forgiveness without jumping into full game-improvement territory. The body is forged from S20C steel, while a SUP10 face works with Srixon’s MainFrame system, an internal network of milled channels that helps the face flex more efficiently to preserve ball speed on off-center hits.
Like the ZXi7, the ZXi5 Black Chrome uses the i-FORGED process to enhance strength and feel, and it also features the Tour V.T. Sole for improved turf interaction. The result is an iron that can produce higher ball speeds and a little extra carry, but still allows skilled players to control trajectory and spin.
So what’s new beyond the cosmetics?
The finish itself is a durable black chrome treatment designed to reduce glare at address while adding a darker, more uniform look throughout the set. The stock build continues the blackout theme with Dynamic Gold Mid 115 Tour Issue Gunmetal steel shafts and Golf Pride MCC Black/Grey grips. It’s a cohesive package that is intentional from grip to sole.
Pricing remains in line with the standard ZXi models at $1,299.99 for a set of ZXi7 or ZXi5 irons in their stock steel configuration. So, you’re not paying extra for the darker finish, but you are getting a limited-edition look layered onto a platform that was already engineered around feel and performance.
Performance-wise, nothing fundamental has changed, but visually, these irons send a very different message at address. And for some golfers, that can make their game feel just a little sharper.
