Dylan Mingo, the No. 8 recruit in '26 class, commits to North Carolina

There are many schools that can claim to have a history with guards like that of North Carolina.

That history added another chapter on Tuesday as Dylan Mingo, a five-star combo guard from Long Island Lutheran (Glen Head, N.Y.), announced his commitment to the Tar Heels.

A 6-foot-5 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, Mingo chose North Carolina over Baylor, Penn State and Washington. He becomes their second pledge in the 2026 class joining Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) four-star small forward Maximo Adams.

An injury has kept Mingo out for a majority of the season but during the summer, he displayed his talent as one of the best players in the country. Playing for the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL Circuit, Mingo averaged 19.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

According to recruiting site 247Sports, Wingo ranks as the No. 8 player in the 2026 cycle, the No. 3 combo guard and No. 1 player out of New York.

With the two pledges between Adams and Wingo, North Carolina’s current class ranks No. 23 in the country. In the ACC it is the sixth-ranked class trailing Duke, Pittsburgh, Florida State, Stanford and Wake Forest.
