Vincent Kompany says his role at Bayern Munich is to cultivate, not recruit

Bayern Munich has a good team headed by a better coach. Vincent Kompany has turned Bayern from a team that looked lost into one of the most dangerous teams in Europe. It’s hard to imagine the Bavarians signing anyone that could make them better. When Kompany was asked that question, he had a surprising answer.

“My role is to love the players we have here,” Kompany said (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “We have other people working here who help with bringing in new players. My role is to say: the players we have here are top — I want to work with Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Luis Díaz, Jamal Musiala, and we’ll see what happens in the summer.”

The Rekordmeister does have a lot on their plate: plenty of contract negotiations and plenty of transfer targets to be signed (or not, depending on many factors). Either way, the Belgian coach is a breath of fresh air after the previous coach.
