Barely have I surfaced from my slumber, and I need to get to work on the Gameday Thread, before I even have breakfast or head off to work. Ah, East coast day games. Prior warning: for tomorrow’s East coast day game, do not expect any significant commentary. You will be getting the line-up and the bullpen chart. It being Sunday, I will therefore be heading back to bed, as soon as Mrs. SnakePit has assembled the traditional pastries and coffee for our vintage TV marathon. I think we’re intending to start Get Smart, since we’ve also been plowing through all of Mel Brooks’s movies. Question: is Spaceballs supposed to be funny? I’m genuinely unsure.

Anyway. Bit of a good news, bad news situation today in the D-backs line-up. Corbin Carroll is back in the line-up after a couple of days off after tweaking his hip while running the bases. Why are people not demanding designated replacements to prevent this kind of unnecessary injury: I recall it was one of the pro-DH arguments. He is still only at DH, but half a Carroll is better than no Carroll at all. However, we are without Gabriel Moreno, and unlike Corbin, this may be significant. Nick Piecoro reports that Gabby went for an MRI this morning: no results at the time of writing, so we’ll see what shows up there.

Today, we get Adrian Del Castillo behind the plate, so I’m sure any Phillies base-runners will be off like hares. It’ll be his first start as a catcher in the majors since August last year, and he only had four of those. We’ll see if his defense against the stolen base has improved any. He has been credited with just two CS in 31 attempts. And if I remember correctly, one of those was a trick play where the pitcher snared Del throw down, then fired to third to get the runner there instead. Therefore, I hope our pitchers today are good with runners in scoring position, because there could end up being quite a few. At least the Phillies are below average, with only 8 SB so far.
