Detroit Tigers two-time reigning AL Cy Young award winner Tarik Skubal was scheduled to start the team’s series-opener vs. the Red Sox on Monday.
Now, the southpaw faces an uncertain future.
“Skubal will undergo surgery for loose bodies in his elbow. There’s no set timetable but it’s seen as a relatively routine surgery. Best guess: two months,” MLB insider Jon Heyman posted on Bluesky.
Skubal is 3-2 with a 2.70 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 45 strikeouts across 43 1/3 innings pitched covering seven starts this season.
Crochet was placed on the 15-day injured list on April 29 due to left shoulder inflammation.
Skubal and Crochet are joined by Houston Astros ace Hunter Brown (shoulder strain) on the IL, meaning that each of the top three finishers from the 2025 AL Cy Young race are currently sidelined.
