Should you start Alvin Kamara this week? Latest on Saints RB injury

The New Orleans Saints shared their final injury report ahead of Week 6’s game with the New England Patriots, and for the most part, it’s clean. Just one Saints player has been preemptively ruled out for Sunday, and two others are questionable. But one of those is a big name. It’s beginning to look like Alvin Kamara will be a game-day decision.

Should you activate him in fantasy football? Kamara had fewer rushing attempts last week (8) than Kendre Miller (11) for the first time this season, and the younger rusher seemed to be gaining confidence from his new coaching staff by the week. Kamara still has more value as a scoring threat and target in the passing game, especially in PPR leagues. But Miller’s presence could give the Saints an alternative in the backfield. If Kamara can’t play, Miller would see an awfully heavy workload.

It feels telling that Kamara never saw more than limited participation at practice during the week. He injured his ankle during last week’s win over the New York Giants and played through it, but the training staff scaled back his reps throughout the week, and now he’s questionable for this Patriots game. Maybe they decided to take it easy with a running back on the wrong side of 30 and keep him fresh for Sunday. This hasn’t been characterized as a serious injury all week, and Kamara has played through minor ailments before.

So go ahead and start him. For now. But check in on Sunday morning before inactive lists are reported around the league and be prepared to bring up someone from your bench. You never know.
