LSU football took a slip in the US LBM Coaches Poll after suffering a loss at Vanderbilt in Week 8. The Tigers now sit at No. 19, falling nine spots from No. 10.
LSU entered Week 8 at 5-1 on the year and 2-1 in SEC play. Brian Kelly’s squad was firmly in the College Football Playoff mix, but now LSU faces an uphill battle if it wants to be playing meaningful football in December. The Tigers likely need to win out, a tough task given the remaining schedule. It’s not getting easier this week as LSU is set to host an unbeaten Texas A&M team. The Aggies rank No. 3 in the Coaches Poll.
The Tigers scored first at Vanderbilt, going up 3-0 in the first quarter. But then Vandy QB Diego Pavia took the field and Vanderbilt’s offense controlled the game. Blake Baker’s defense had few answers as Vandy scored on five of its first six drives.
The LSU defense came up with key stops late, but two three-and-outs from the LSU offense sealed the game. It was another example of LSU not playing complementary football. When LSU’s offense rolled early in the game, the defense struggled. When the defense figured it out late, the offense went dormant. LSU hasn’t found a way to play in sync this season.
