Who are Colts' QB options with Daniel Jones injury?

At this time, we do not know the extent of Daniel Jones’ injury, but Indianapolis Colts’ head coach Shane Steichen said after Sunday’s game that “it’s not looking good.”

Jones exited the Colts‘ Week 14 game with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first quarter with what was called an Achilles injury.

So if the Colts are without Jones moving forward, what options do they have at quarterback?

The next man up on the depth chart, as we saw in Sunday’s game, is Riley Leonard.

Leonard was a sixth-round draft pick by the Colts in this past April’s draft out of Notre Dame. This year was meant to be a developmental season for Leonard.

Against the Jaguars, Leonard was 18-for-29 passing for 245 yards with an interception after Jones exited the game.

Here is what a few coaches and scouts had to say about Leonard during the pre-draft process:

On the practice squad for the Colts is veteran quarterback Brett Rypien, who has five years of NFL experience under his belt. Rypien has appeared in 11 games and made four starts in his career.

Head coach Shane Steichen recently provided an injury update on Anthony Richardson, who remains on injured reserve.

At that time, Steichen did not have a specific timeline for when Richardson could potentially return this season.

Perhaps an outside addition is always in play, but options this time of the year are going to be limited, and that player then has to learn a brand new offense on the fly while the Colts are trying to make a playoff push.
