Green Bay Packers right tackle Zach Tom is expecting to have surgery to repair the partially torn patellar tendon he suffered in his knee during a Week 15 loss to the Denver Broncos, per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
Tom, who did not play in any of the Packers’ final four games, said he received PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatments in an attempt to return for Week 18 or the postseason, but there wasn’t enough healing in the knee for him to feel comfortable operating in a game, so he was inactive for the Packers in Saturday’s season-ending loss to the Chicago Bears.
Matt LaFleur and the Packers initially thought Tom would be available for the NFC Wild Card Round, but he sat out Thursday’s practice and wasn’t available on Saturday at Soldier Field. Jordan Morgan started in his place at right tackle.
Tom’s patellar tendon, which connects the tibia to the knee cap, isn’t completely ruptured, suggesting a quicker recovery time from surgery.
Tom said he believes the timeline for recovery is six months, meaning he’d be back for the start of training camp but would miss the entire offseason workout program.
The 2025 season was littered with injuries for Tom, who missed games with a torn oblique muscle early in the season, missed practice time with a back injury and missed four games to end the year after suffering the knee injury in Week 15.
Tom, who has received All-Pro votes at right tackle in both 2024 and 2025, signed a four-year, $88 million deal with the Packers in July of 2025. The deal included a $30.2 million signing bonus.
The Packers offensive line struggled in 2025 and could be in transition entering 2026. Rasheed Walker and Sean Rhyan have expiring contracts, and Elgton Jenkins — who ended the season on injured reserve — is a likely cap casualty.
