What started in the AFC North has now found its way to the NFC South. Once together with the Cleveland Browns, head coach Kevin Stefanski and quarterback Baker Mayfield had led the Browns to the promised land that included a playoff win. Despite their success, they both found themselves run out of town, with Mayfield claiming the coldness of Stefanski remains in the back of his mind.
Fast forward to the present day, and they have a renewed rivalry that now comes to the NFC South after Stefanski was hired as the Atlanta Falcons head coach. During his introductory press conference, Kevin Stefanski commented on the renewed rivalry between the Bucs and Falcons, but also on the Mayfield situation.
Stefanski stated, “Baker’s somebody that I have a ton of respect for as a player and a person,” Stefanski said. “I love rivalries in sports, and, obviously, Buccaneers-Falcons have a great rivalry. It’s something that I’m excited about. I would not get into the specifics of those type of things, other than to say I have a ton of respect for Baker as a player, as a person. That’s a great team with a great player.”
The Bucs and Falcons didn’t need juice anymore, but here we are as the rivalry gets the ’90s baseball experience. It will make for must-see TV and everyone knows a Baker Mayfield with a chip on his shoulder plays better than one without it.
