New HS basketball Super 25 heading into final month of regular season

This week’s IndyStar Super 25 power poll, which considers teams from all parts of the state and in any class (though Monday’s games):

1: Fishers (16-0): The Tigers got a battle from Avon before pulling away for a 65-50 win over Avon on Friday, then crushed Fort Wayne Carroll 79-37 on Saturday. Road games this week at Franklin Central (Friday) and Carmel (Saturday). The latter was the last team to beat Fishers in the regular season … two years ago. Previous: 1.

2: Crown Point (13-0): The Bulldogs ended a nine-day layoff on Monday with an 84-62 blowout of Chesterton. Dikembe Shaw put up 33 points, four rebounds and four assists in the win. Up next is at LaPorte (Friday) and vs. Gary 21st Century (Saturday). Previous: 2.

3: Silver Creek (17-1): The Dragons hammered New Albany 87-70 as Brandon Hunter went for 28 points and nine assists. A couple of home games this week vs. Madison (Friday) and Bloomington South (Saturday). Previous: 4.

4: Plainfield (16-1): The Quakers defeated Marion County Tournament champion Lawrence North 65-62 and Mooresville 69-37. DePaul commit Noah Smith scored 28 points in the win over the Wildcats. Up next: vs. Decatur Central (Friday). Previous: 5.

5: Mt. Vernon (14-2): The Marauders knocked off Avon 64-52, then rolled to a 69-50 win over HSE as Luke Ertel posted a triple double (22 points, 17 rebounds, 11 assists) and broke the long-standing career scoring record at Mt. Vernon. Up next: at New Castle (Friday) and at West Lafayette Harrison (Saturday). Previous: 7.

6: Lawrence North (15-2): The Wildcats had a tough schedule coming off the Marion County championship with a game against Plainfield three days later. It went down the wire on the road in a 65-62 loss. But LN rebounded with a 58-52 win over North Central. This is an off week for the Wildcats. Previous: 3.

7: Pike (14-3): The Red Devils rebounded from the overtime loss to Lawrence North in the Marion County finals with a big overtime win, 61-55, over Carmel and a 74-59 win over Shortridge. Big weekend for sophomore Landon Lampley, who had 20 points in the win over Carmel (8-for-12 shooting, 4-for-7 from 3) and 24 against Shortridge. Jahari Miller said he expects to be back for Saturday’s game vs. Zionsville. Previous: 8.

8: Carmel (10-2): The Greyhounds in the midst of an incredibly difficult stretch, coming off a 61-55 overtime loss to Pike on Friday. Evan Harrell had a 22-point game in the loss. It gets no easier this weekend with games at Ben Davis (Friday) and vs. Fishers (Saturday). Previous: 6.

9. Cathedral (12-3): The Irish are set to take on Scecina at home for the City Tournament championship on Tuesday night as I write this. Cathedral knocked off Bishop Chatard (81-46) and Cardinal Ritter (67-54) to get to the title game. The Irish are at Richmond on Friday. Previous: 9.

10: Northridge (13-1): The Raiders defeated Penn (47-36) and Mishawaka (81-40) last week as Brady Scholl went for 21 points and 14 rebounds and 27 points in the two games. Up next: at Plymouth (Friday) and vs. South Bend Riley (Saturday). Previous: 10.

11: Ben Davis (10-3): The Giants were off last week. Tough weekend ahead as Carmel visits and then a trip to Huntington University to play Parke Heritage on Saturday. Previous: 12.

12: Portage (13-0): Portage stayed unbeaten – barely – with a 58-56 win over Merrillville. Josiah Brown had 23 points and six rebounds in the win. Up next: Griffith (Tuesday) and at Michigan City (Friday). Previous: 11.

13: Pendleton Heights (11-2): The Arabians rolled to a 68-43 win over Tri-West for a seventh consecutive victory. Cooper Sims had 26 points in the win. Up next: vs. Greenfield-Central (Friday) and at Hamilton Southeastern (Saturday). Previous: 14.

14: Terre Haute North (12-3): The Patriots have won 10 consecutive games after taking down West Lafayette Harrison (64-59) and Southport (75-57) last week. Cam Fennell had 23 points in the win over Harrison. Up next: vs. McCutcheon (Friday) and at Bedford North Lawrence (Saturday). Previous: 15.

15: New Albany (9-4): The Bulldogs look to rebound from an 87-70 loss to Silver Creek with games at Evansville North (Friday) and vs. Jasper (Saturday) coming up. New Albany’s other three losses are to Plainfield, Lawrence North and Fishers. Previous: 13.

16: South Bend St. Joseph (10-4): The Huskies were dealt a blow with senior point guard Ethan Roseman’s announcement that he would be out for the season to undergo surgery on a torn labrum. St. Joe beat NorthWood 82-59 last week. Up next: at Elkhart (Friday). Previous: 19.

17: South Bend Riley (11-3): The Wildcats defeated Career Academy 89-26 for a fourth consecutive win. Riley hosts three-win New Prairie on Friday, then has a huge game at Northridge in a rematch of the Kokomo Tournament championship (Northridge won 43-38). Previous: 23.

18: Oak Hill (12-0): Oak Hill defeated Alexandria 60-44 as Jace Tonagel put up 17 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Up next: at Madison-Grant (Friday) and vs. Lapel (Saturday). Previous: 20.

19: Zionsville (10-6): The Eagles are on a four-game winning streak after knocking off Hamilton Southeastern (58-47) and Warren Central (42-39) last weekend. Camden Moore had 26 points and 11 rebounds combined in the two wins. Up next: vs. Brownsburg (Friday) and at Pike (Saturday). Previous: 21.

20: Penn (10-3): Penn lost 47-36 to Northridge, then rebounded with a 96-65 win over Fort Wayne Wayne as Caleb Coolman went for 31 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. Up next is South Bend Adams (Friday) and Goshen (Saturday). Previous: 16.

21: Brownsburg (8-7): The Bulldogs rebounded from losses to Plainfield and Fishers with a 43-41 win over Westfield as Brandon Addison had 10 points and five rebounds and made all three of his 3-point attempts. Up next: at Zionsville on Friday. Previous: NR.

22: Chesterton (12-3): Chesterton saw its six-game winning streak snapped on Monday in an 84-62 loss to Crown Point. The Trojans are at Lake Central on Friday. Previous: 17.

23: Whiteland (13-2): The Warriors have not lost since Dec. 19. The 10-game winning streak includes wins over Shelbyville (67-61) and Franklin (62-56) last week. Kyle Edwards had 20 points and seven rebounds in the win over Shelbyville. Up next: vs. Mooresville (Friday) and at Columbus North (Saturday). Previous: NR.

24: Shelbyville (12-4): The Golden Bears lost 67-61 to Whiteland, then bounced back with a 64-45 win over Greenfield-Central. One game this week at Speedway on Friday. Previous: 18.

25: Parke Heritage (13-3): The Wolves bounced back from a 15-point loss to Zionsville with a 75-39 win over North Vermillion. Up next: vs. Riverton Parke on Friday, then a trip to Huntington University on Saturday to play Ben Davis. Previous: NR.

Dropped out: Noblesville (22), Hamilton Southeastern (24), Westfield (25)
