While the Dallas Cowboys are likely to bring Javonte Williams back after a wildly successful season, the team has more work to do at the position than just that.

After an ineffective and injury-riddled season, Miles Sanders is highly unlikely to be back, which would leave Malik Davis and Jaydon Blue as the backups to Williams.

Safe to say, the Cowboys could use another veteran back in that room and Randy Gurzi of On SI named Dallas an ideal landing spot for Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier, who Gurzi considers a “dream target” for the Cowboys.

Here’s Gurzi’s full thoughts on the Cowboys targeting Allgeier:

The Cowboys want to re-sign Javonte Williams following his breakout campaign, which is a smart plan. They should still add depth to the running back position, with Tyler Allgeier standing out as an ideal fit.

A bruising back at 225 pounds, Allgeier topped 1,000 yards as a rookie in 2022. He’s since been the No. 2 back behind Bijan Robinson, and would find it plenty of success in the Cowboys’ zone running scheme.

A former fifth-round pick, Allgeier put together an impressive rookie campaign in 2022, when he posted over 1,000 yards on the ground and four total touchdowns.

However, Allgeier has taken a back seat to Bijan Robinson the past three seasons, although he has remained productive despite Robinson dominating touches, with Allgeier posting over 500 rushing yards in each campaign.

Allgeier is the definition of a power back with his bruising running style and he would be just what the doctor ordered in Dallas.

Having Allgeier handle some of the dirty work between the tackles and at the goal line will help keep Williams healthy, something that was an issue for him toward the end of the 2025 season.

Spotrac projects Allgeier will land a one-year, $1.8 million deal, so he’ll come at a reasonable price the Cowboys can afford.
