Cristiano Ronaldo’s future in Saudi Arabia is no longer as certain as it once appeared.

With tensions rising behind the scenes at Al-Nassr, the possibility of a high-profile exit has reopened speculation about where Ronaldo could finish his career and whether his rivalry with Lionel Messi could take on a new chapter.

According to reports from Kooora, Ronaldo’s frustration centres on Al-Nassr’s limited transfer activity and the wider structure of support within the Saudi Pro League.

The report states, “Ronaldo is upset about the lack of investment in Al-Nassr club and the reduction of the powers of the club’s directors.

“Ronaldo wants to play regularly before the World Cup as a priority… and if no compromise is reached, he will move to the American league.”

The January window has now closed, leaving Al-Nassr unable to strengthen the squad until the summer. That reality has reportedly intensified Ronaldo’s dissatisfaction, especially with rival clubs benefiting from greater backing.

At this stage of his career, regular minutes and competitive relevance appear to outweigh financial considerations. With the World Cup approaching, Ronaldo’s focus has shifted toward match sharpness and stability.

How MLS move could reignite Lionel Messi rivalry

If a compromise cannot be reached, a move to Major League Soccer would immediately carry global significance. Lionel Messi’s presence in the United States means Ronaldo’s arrival would revive one of football’s defining rivalries on a new stage.

However, any departure from Saudi Arabia is not yet guaranteed. The same report stresses, “It must be emphasized that Ronaldo’s priority now is to stay in the Saudi League and continue representing Al-Nassr.”

That caveat highlights the balancing act underway. Ronaldo remains open to staying, but only if assurances are made around ambition and competitiveness.

A return to Europe has also been discussed in some circles, but age, squad demands, and commercial realities complicate that route. MLS offers visibility, a manageable schedule, and the chance to share a league with Messi.

For now, the standoff continues. Al-Nassr must decide whether to meet Ronaldo’s expectations or risk losing the league’s biggest star.
