Texas A&M baseball looked every bit like an elite offensive unit on opening weekend, giving fans plenty to cheer about with eight home runs and 45 runs scored across a dominant three‑game sweep of Tennessee Tech. The Aggies earned their national ranking this week, and one of the program’s most popular stars added another accolade to his growing résumé.
Junior outfielder and future MLB Draft pick Caden Sorrell has wasted no time reminding the SEC what he’s capable of after missing most of the 2025 season. Against Tennessee Tech, he delivered one of the most complete performances of his career—spraying hits to all fields, making highlight‑reel plays worthy of SportsCenter’s Top 10, and even causing havoc on the basepaths. If Texas A&M plans to return to the NCAA Tournament, Sorrell will need to be a driving force, and through three games, he looks more than ready for the challenge.
On Monday, the conference named Sorrell the SEC Player of the Week after a blistering opening series in which he recorded nine hits, three home runs, and 10 RBI in front of a spirited Olsen Field crowd.
Below is the excerpt from the league’s official release:
Texas A&M’s Caden Sorrell went 9-for-15 (.600) with seven runs scored, 10 RBI, three home runs, one walk and two stolen bases, compiling a .625 on-base percentage and 1.200 slugging percentage (1.825 OPS) in the Aggies’ opening weekend sweep of Tennessee Tech. He homered twice and drove in five RBI on Friday and added another homer run with four more RBI in the second game of the series on Saturday. Sorrell then recorded four hits on Sunday.
Texas A&M will host A&M-Corpus Christi in their first midweek game of the 2026 season on February 17 at Blue Bell Park in Bryan–College Station.
