Tigers make the top seven schools for five-star corner Joshua Dobson

Clemsonfootball continues to position itself in the thick of the national recruiting conversation, now landing an official visit with the second-best corner in the nation.

Five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, a member of the 2027 class, has Clemson on his visit list as the Tigers are set to host the elite prospect on March 7th. Dobson is widely viewed as one of the best defensive talents in the nation and currently ranks as the No. 2 cornerback nationally and a top 10 overall player in his class.

At 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Dobson brings a blend of length and speed to the table. A native of Cornelius, North Carolina, Dobson plays at Hough High School, a program that has produced multiple Division I prospects in recent cycles. His recruitment has already drawn attention from a loaded group of programs, including Texas Tech, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Miami, Auburn, and LSU

For Clemson, getting Dobson to campus is an early but meaningful step.

Dobson’s evaluation from 247 Sports Andrew Ivins paints a picture of a defender built to thrive in space. He is described as a speedy zone corner with quick feet, smooth transitions, and the ability to gain depth with ease when playing in reverse. Those traits align closely with what Clemson has traditionally valued in its secondary, particularly in quarters-heavy and pattern-match coverages where corners are asked to read, drive, and close rapidly.

While Dobson is still developing physically, that upside is part of the appeal. Adding mass to his frame is expected to elevate his effectiveness in run support, but his coverage instincts already stand out. He keeps his eyes disciplined, tracks the football well, and consistently puts himself in position for a catch.

Dobson is also a dangerous athlete when he has the ball in his hands. He has scored three career kickoff return touchdowns and flashes the acceleration and open-field vision that translate to special teams value at the next level.

On the track, Dobson’s speed is verified. He is a two-time state qualifier in the 400-meter dash and owns personal bests of 10.85 in the 100 meters, 22.21 in the 200 meters, and 48.86 in the 400 meters, numbers that confirm the burst and long speed seen on film.

Production has followed as well. As a sophomore, Dobson totaled 48 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and 3 interceptions, adding two kickoff return touchdowns. His breakout freshman season featured 24 tackles, 6 pass breakups, and 3 interceptions, establishing him early as a difference-maker in the secondary. He has also flashed offensive ability with multiple receptions and touchdowns in spot duty.

The Tigers have made a renewed push in national recruiting battles, particularly on the defensive side of the ball, and Dobson fits the type of high-ceiling prospect capable of anchoring a future secondary. His March visit allows Clemson to showcase its defensive development track record, NFL pipeline, and long-term vision.
