It’s Journal Sentinel Milwaukee Marathon weekend – and though April showers have been hitting southeastern Wisconsin, it’s looking like the rain may hold off for the runners.
The marathon has three events over the weekend: a marathon and half-marathon beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, April 11, and a 5K starting at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, April 12.
Aidan Kuroski, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, said most of April 11 should be dry in the Milwaukee area, although rain may move in during the late afternoon.
Overnight rain between April 11 and April 12 will likely make Sunday’s 5K a wetter event.
Kuroski said the rain will likely let up the morning of April 12, but some mild thunderstorms may move in later in the day.
Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 40s and low 50s Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11 – but then the weekend will see a significant warm-up, as a high-pressure system moving into the region will bring in southerly winds, Kuroski said.
“If we get any sun at all, I think mid-70s is definitely achievable on Sunday,” he said.
By Monday, April 13, temperatures are expected to reach the mid-to-upper 70s, and should continue around that range Tuesday, April 14, Kuroski said.

It may not all be sunny skies, however. Kuroski said there are chances for severe weather to accompany the warm-up early next week.
With the likely on-and-off rain over the weekend and early next week, there’s the possibility for flooding. Kuroski advised people to keep an eye out for that risk.
“Nothing major right now. It’s just something to watch for,” he said. “If we get an event that gives us four, five inches of rain or something like that, then you’re going to see some impacts – river flooding, maybe even some flash flooding, if that becomes a concern.”
