The people on board reportedly included one pilot, five instructors, and five trainees. Self-employed nurses were among the victims, according to the head of the local branch of the French National Nurses’ Association.

The prefect of the Meurthe-et-Moselle department, Yves Seguy, told BFM TV that the crash was likely caused by a mechanical malfunction and that the plane fell from the sky rather than attempting an emergency landing. The cause of the incident remains under investigation, he added.
