Texas A&M may avoid facing Texas's star linebacker, who is injured

No. 3 Texas A&M (10-0, 7-0 SEC) will host FCS Samford (1-10) on Saturday afternoon, which will also serve as Senior Night for every veteran on the 2025 roster set to depart after the 2025 season. While the Aggies are expected to blow out the Bulldogs, the regular season finale against Texas looms large, especially after falling to the Longhorns 17-7 in Kyle Field last season.

However, with the Aggies expected to enter Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium 11-0 and 7-0 in the SEC, needing one more conference win to make it to the program’s first SEC Championship Game since entering the conference before the 2012 season, the Longhorns are sitting at a disappointing 7-3. They will also need to win out to have any shot at making it to the College Football Playoff.

Defensively, Texas possesses the 23rd-ranked defense that has kept the Longhorns in nearly every game, but after losing 35-10 on the road against Georgia, the secondary struggled, and the team’s leading tackler, junior star linebacker Anthony Hill, reportedly broke a bone in his hand after recording six tackles and his second interception of the year.

According to 247Sports and Texas insider Chip Brown, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is confident that his leading tackler could return before the end of the regular season.

“Both Ant [Hill] and Ryan, we’re just making sure that they’re going to be okay. I’m not ready to make that diagnosis on where they’re going to be yet, but feel optimistic.”

Unless Hill can play with the broken bone in his hand, it’s important to note that the Lone Star Showdown will take place just six days after Texas hosts Arkansas on Saturday, so right now, I don’t expect the junior to play, but anything can happen, as we’ve seen in the past.

Anthony Hill leads Texas in tackles (69) and forced fumbles (3), paired with seven tackles for loss and four sacks.
